EL “KING” (Mexico)
(Spanish only ) 1996 42 minutes
This heart-rending Spanish story confronts the ever-increasing worldwide problem of teenage gangs and the power of negative peer pressure. Shot in Matehuala, Mexico, the film focuses on the gang’s outgoing and persuasive leader Juan Carlos, nicknamed “The King” by his loyal cronies. Willing to dabble in any form of evil that catches his attention, Juan eventually finds himself firmly trapped in a web of his own making. As things go from bad to worse, each member of the gang is finally forced to face the ultimate destructiveness of his own actions. Simultaneously, the inherent truth of the gospel message demands a personal decision as well, having been clearly presented on a number of occasions to the gang by Alfredo, a brave young Christian man who stands consistently for the cause of Christ despite intimidating odds.
